Kip litton race photos for Rochester marathon look a little fishy. Early on he's'breathing hard behind a walker fatter lady. Then He looks like he's'grabbing his hamstring in bit of pain at the finish.

So kip won 300dollars for being 1st master at rochester?

Strictly speaking, wikipedia is doing what it should - using what it considers to be reliable 3rd party sites (e.g. active.com) as a source.
Perhaps someone with an active.com login might like to ask a few questions here...

Plus, it would seem that is a Mr Pedro Rodriquez who should be recognised as the winner of the Publix Super Markets Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend - Michelob Challenge.

Perhaps someone should bring this thread to his attention.
Was there prize money involved here?

Kip does start quite close to the Gun here, by his standards at least - 2:57:25 vs 2:57:59, so perhaps this one could be legit. However if I was Mr Eric J Maki, 2nd Masters, I might be interested in checking with the timing company to see if Kip went through all the intemediate timing points in the race.

Photos for Kip here:
http://www.brightroom.com/view_user_event.asp?EVENTID=61901&PWD=&BIB=302
Photos for second masters:
http://www.brightroom.com/view_user_event.asp?EVENTID=61901&PWD=&BIB=314

If we ignore the generic start and finish line photos that aren't of any particular runner, the second masters guy gets twice as many photos as Kip, including some shots from rural/forest parts of the course where Kip has no photos at all.

I wonder if Mr Maki remembers another masters guy passing him, because it can't have been at the start, since Kip started more than 30 seconds later.

Alright, woke up too early and was pretty bored, but did some searching. Here is the start of the Vermont City Marathon 2010 via youtube. It is the first turn of the course from Park St. to Pearl St.(http://www.vermontcitymarathon.org/page.php?pid=13&pname=marathon_course_maps). Used Google street view to make sure. Check the corner out yourself. Roughly .08 miles from the start according to the marathon website.

Youtube Link of start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoKAbUJmyAQ

Change to 480p to get it slightly clearer

Litton that day according to the race photos(I assume towards the end of the race) featured him wearing a red BAA singlet, white logo in the middle of the upper chest, black hat, sunglasses, compression socks. Oddly he is carrying a black piece of fabric in his hand in all the pictures(possibly a shirt?). Pictures can be found here:http://www.asiorders.com/view_user_event.asp?EVENTID=60448&BIB=1609&LNSEARCH=1 .

I fast forwarded to about 4:20 minutes of the video. Keep in mind around the 1:50 mark, the leaders cross the crosswalk. At that point I attempted to search for a red singlet, white logo in the middle upper chest and black hat , possibly compression socks. Not exactly easy considering the quality of the video, but it is clear enough to differentiate a red shirt and a red singlet. White logos are also noticeable on other shirts, so I would assume the white BAA logo would be visible. Hats also appear to be fairly visible.

Thing is, I can't find him from after the 4:20 mark, about 2 minutes and 30 seconds after the leaders. I watched it maybe five times. Maybe he made up some serious time quickly and it before the 4:20 point, but it looks crowded. So I ask those out there to check the video out also to try and find the same, to make sure I am wrong or right. I saw a lot of red shirts, few singlets, can't remember picking up a white logo in the middle of anyone's shirt. Good chance I missed him too.

Another thing to take into consideration is the black fabric in his hand at the finish. He could have been sporting a black shirt, black hate combo at the start. So try and look for that possibly. Maybe he swapped the shirts in order to cut, I have no clue. What else could it be? Vermont in May I would assume isn't that cold.

He ran all of these races on a single day? He ran a 15k and then a marathon, in addition to a 5k? If he can do that his marathon pr should be a lot faster than it is. 2:53:52 after running 20k worth of races? If he's legit, well done, but that seems highly suspicious.

His pace for 15k was 5:48 and then he ran a marathon in 2:53 plus, 6:38 pace.

The 07' and 08' Crim races were 1:06 plus, both races. Then in 09' he runs 56:55 at age 48(?). Was he running with a friend or was the weather brutal and then great in 09'? Was it the triathlon the week before? I have no clue but his times are all over the place.

Is it possible, absolutely, but it's also highly suspicious with the goofy splits and hidden race numbers.

Hard to see anything in that crowd at Vermont City Marathon 2010. If someone was really keen they could contact the Youtube uploader, who would have a clearer copy that what we can see on Youtube.

Here are the photos of Kip:

This is the first time I've seen him with the bib pinned on the shirt.

Most of the time he wears the bib low down attached to his shorts... and he appears to have a shirt, often tucked out of the way at the start, but with potential to "fall" over the number on the bib during the race. Refer to the photos from the Providence Marathon for examples.

Kip finished as 7th M4549 Master at Vermont City.

Also at vermont city, do you think Litton sped up to 6:11 pace for the last 6.2miles? Possibly, but That seems quick for him.

YES! I saw this too. I live in SW FL. 54:00 is a darn good time for a 45-49 guy. Someone capable of 54:00 in 15K should do well under 2:50 for a marathon and also be able to beat 1:21 for a half which is his purported pr.

Also he came back an hour later to run 17:33 5K in the Gasparilla 5K. next day a marathon in 2:57. No way.

You can cut the Gasparilla 15K course easily - they have a mat at half-way and I think that's it. It's a lollipop course where you can cut off to the other side of the street (you can see the leaders coming back while you are getting close to the turnaround) very easily.

The 5K has no mats to my recollection. It is more of a high school/college kid attended race, also a lot of slow people so easy to cross the median and cutoff.

I am sure you can also cheat on the marathon there as it has a long stretch that is identical to the last several miles of the 15K.

If I run the Naples 1/2 this yr or Gasparilla, I am going to see if he is sugned up and possibly just do the race as a training run right next to him just out of morbid curiosity!

AS a 45-49 age grouper myself, I can tell by looking at the fitness level of the 6th and 8th place guys, they are legit. This Kip guy is a bowl of jello and NO WAY capable of running those times.

I can run a 17 flat 5k but it would kill me for a few days. I can run a 55 flat 15k and be wounded for a solid week. I can run a 2:50 marathon but not a CHANCE in HELL do it after running a 5k and 15k the day before!

Let's keep our eyes and ears open for this guy and catch him!

Here's a little info on Gasparilla. I ran the challenge in 08, 09, and 10. You can see my name if you scroll up since I got 3rd in 10 and 2nd in 09. In 09 I got mailed the plaque for 1st place overall. I thought maybe they had a masters division or something. In 10 I got my 3rd overall plaque in the mail. He cheated in 09, and he cheated in 10. The marathon in 10 is obvious. Look at the marathon split times for the half and Split 2 on Active - http://results.active.com/pages/searchform.jsp?posted_p=t&rsID=89659&queryType=division&page=1&numPerPage=25&pubID=3&showCustom=true#hot_links
Even the winner (2:24:48) took almost 4 minutes to cover that distance and Kip did it in a minute and 24 seconds. I guarantee he cheated on the other races too. I started about as far back as he did in the 5k. I can do a low 18 5k, and was lucky to break 22 with the wall of people. There's no mat at the turnaround for the 5k, and nothing but a sidewalk separating the runners in either direction. You can turn around wherever you want, and with 9000 finishers and pouring rain, nobody is going to notice.

I think trying to catch him in the act is a great idea. (I have daydreams of jogging behind him with video and catching him leaving the course, & jumping in his car... all with the entertaining commentary of someone like Ryan on Flotrak during Solinsky's sub 27 10k run!)

I would suggest NOT announcing your plans on this website beforehand, however, because there is a chance you'll tip Kip off. I would guess he reads these. At least, don't mention which race you're going to try following him.

What world record is this guy trying to break anyway? A sub-3 in every state has been done. Toby Skinner in 1991, and Joe Bowman 2005. I guess Kip would be the oldest to pull it off if he actually did it, and didn't get caught cheating all the time.

I believe no person has done sub-3 in every state once over the age of 40. That's my understanding of the world record he's going for... 40+.
