had a good day. Chuck Engle "Marathon Junkie" probably had a bad one. If you know who he is, you'll know why I'm gonna consider finishing one place behind him in the steamy Providence Marathon as a highlight for me.

Andrew Price Way to go! Now if you finish one behind him in the number of marathons run then we'll conclude you have a lot of free time!

Jeff Raphelson Great finish! Tell the truth, were you drafting off of him the whole way?
May 4, 2010 at 8:42am
Kip Litton I DID draft off him, for like the first 1/4 mile, until he disappeared from view!

Wait a second. Kip's last quote above from facebook "I DID draft off him (Chuck Engle), for like the first 1/4 mile, until he disappeared from view!"

Providence race results has Kip's gun/chip differential at 3:34, but Chuck Engle's was 1 second. So, Kip crossed the start line 3:33 after Chuck, but drafted off him for the first 1/4 mile? Hell, Chuck would have already been at the 1/2 mile mark before Kip crossed the start line.

This guy is phonier than a 3-dollar bill.

Most of his client/friend base knows zippo about running so he pulls it off well

what's the Crim 10 mile race?

It's one of the premier races in Michigan. Takes place in Flint, MI in late August. I wouldn't be surprised if Kip exercised some judgment and skipped the race. He has drawn a lot of attention/scrutiny among the running community in Southeast Michigan, and there would likely have been several people on the lookout for him. I wouldn't be surprised if someone planned on following him. There would absolutely be review/scrutiny of his times/pictures by people very knowledgable about the course and Kip's reputation.

Likelihood of getting caught cheating at that race would be much, much higher than some random race in a different state where he is relatively unknown.

Also, because the race is done by most serious runners in the area, the most acceptable excuse for missing it would be an "injury".

You can see from his Athlinks page that he did the Crim race in 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002 (5k), 2001 (5k), and 2000 (5k).

Like I said, it's usually a "can't miss" event around here. Seems like Kip has enjoyed it in the past.

However, this year leading up to Crim was around the time that the first thread about him came up on LetsRun. So, many people had much more awareness.

In an amazing coincidence, for the first year in 11 years, Kip was "injured" and missed it. What are the odds?

Oh yeah, and apparently that crippling injury didn't last very long because he managed to record a 2:57 at the Rochester Marathon two weeks later. Amazing recovery, eh?

The record of his times at Crim also paints a picture...

2010: DNS
2009: 56:55 (age group win)
2008: 1:06:18
2007: 1:06:23
2006: 1:06:41
2005: 1:10:26
2004: 1:09:08
2003: 1:09:27
2002: 20:30 (5k)
2001: 21:11 (5k)
2000: 23:12 (5k)

And, the 10-mile Crim course is TOUGH. Several big hills in the mid/late miles. Not a fast course at all. That 56:55 in 2009 sticks out like a sore thumb. But once you know the story, 2010 sticks out just as much.

Yes, his 56:55 is listed as his time in the 2009 Crim on the Athlinks site but check the official results here

He is not listed as the AG winner. He is not listed in the official results. Anyone know what happened?

Just another weird thing going on...

diligent work, dhdhdh. That's a 5:42 pace on a hilly course for 10 miles, out of the blue. The other argument is why is he running "only" 2:50-3:00" He should be running 2:40. Of course we all know why not. Can one cut the Crim course easily? Again, fascinating.

Again, this is all the proof I need. I believe this poster and stand by his post 100%.

I ran a 10k in Michigan "years ago" and was 33:30-33:50(?) at the finish (going off memory). I run pretty even, whether it's a marathon or a 10k. The race was the Turkey Trot in Detroit and there is a lot of runners that participate. After the initial goof ball sprint for the first half mile, people usually slow up and run their reality pace. From the 1/2 mile to the finish line only one runner passed me and it was Don Johns (yellow sweat pants with a stripe) who was obviously having a fun run on T-Day.

Out of all the runners that I passed, there was a certain runner that I vaguely knew and went by him at about 1.5 miles and actually said hi. It finished in Cobo Hall if I recall, or Joe Louis. I finished and saw this runner about 5 minutes after the race ended and asked him how he finished up. He told me his time and I said "what"? He then showed me his watch and it read 32:30's. I said dude, I passed you and you never passed me back and I was in the 33's. He got a very strange look on his face, shrugged his shoulders and said I had to have passed you and you just didn't see me. I said no one passed me but Don Johns and I am positive. No chips back then, but......within 10 minutes he walked over and said maybe my watch screwed up. Translation: He was caught. There was no money and I don't know exactly what he did, but at 33 plus minutes, you are pretty much in single file with gaps and clicking off 5:23 pace. Although many will say it's not that fast, my point is you know when someone passes you at that pace and to be honest, you usually know who it is.

My long winded point: I don't like cheaters, regardless of prize money or not. If GK says the guy never passed him, I believe him. He finished in front of him, but how he got there is the ? Wouldn't you all know if a runner like that passed you?

Absolutely one can cut the Crim course easily. You could jump in during the hills and follow a group before the next wave would even see you. There many turns and rolling sections not even including the Bradley Hills. As far as mats, I haven't run it in a quite some time, so I am not in a position to comment on that, but there is a lot of videotaping from the local PBS station. His huge drop from one year to the next definitely raises eyebrows. Again, I won't say he cheated at the Crim, but it just smells funny. I ran 55 plus there one year and then ran a marathon in 2:40 plus, in what I considered a bad, bad marathon. With his time at the Crim, he should be able to crank out a much faster marathon, but that's just my opinion.

The link won't come up for me or it's just taking too long. My guess/speculation is, he missed a mat and was DQ'ed.

I don't know that for a fact, I repeat, I don't know that for a fact, but if that's the time he claimed and you claim he's not listed in the official results, then I am speculating that it is a probable reason as to why.

I agree, another weird thing going on.

Dr. Litton did not run the entire way in the '09 Crim 10 mile. Somewhere after 5 miles, he turned left for the finish on either Miller, Corunna or Court Streets. I'm guessing he jogged all the way back and, for reasons known only to him, elected to cross the finish and recorded the 56+ min time. Some time afterward, don't know exactly how long, he found the people doing results and had his time removed from the results. However, the results had already been sent out and places like athlinks were none the wiser. I contacted athlinks and explained why they should remove his time...but obviously they haven't. His name doesn't appear in official results for reasons mentioned above.

Pretty much everything that's appeared on these threads about Kip simply rehash what's already been established - he's cheated in numerous races with incriminating, if not damning, evidence.

Kip said on facebook he was aiming for a sub60min this year:

Kip Litton has a game plan for a Crim PR- hope the weatherman shares my plan. As a backup, I just dragged the treadmill into the sauna for a long run.

Kip Litton Andy, I hesitate to say for fear of jinxing it, but let's just say above 59:58 but without any 6s in it. Are you gonna be there?
August 22, 2010 at 4:23pm
Andrew Price Yup - I'm running and hoping to improve on last year's 8:15 pace.

Is there any way you can easily copy each page of this (and the other) threads to your website? I love the idea of having this publicly available... outside of LetsRun. Just in case.
