If you did pull the mats at the start before he cross, though, how did he get his 4:34 time? I mean, if you unplugged the mats and somehow he still got his chip activated 4:34 in, that sounds like the work of a genius. Or, simply way too ridiculously convoluted to be plausible (like, did he have an inside man on the results crew?)

Thanks for the solid first-hand information; I just can't see how what you're saying is possible.

I posted info on the 17:17 5K to the BAA group facebook page, but it gets deleted, so I dont know what to do.

I mean Josh Cox, an elite, won this race, and Kip Litton finished 40th.

I just went back and reviewed my notes and I was mistaken when I wrote that our start line cleared in 4:18. My notepad from raceday says 4:45. I apologize for getting that fact wrong, 4:18 must have been 2009. That timeline makes sense with what I'm seeing on the Youtube video (see page 4 of this thread). Things start to get fairly sparse with starters at about 6:30 into that video. The leaders hit that corner 1:27 in. Kip, with a 4:34 chip/gun difference would probably have hit that corner around 6:01-6:15. I'd have to go back to the chip data full report I get from our timing company to see how far back Kip was at the start.

Based on the info above it's clear we didn't pull the mats this year until probably 5:15 after the gun. Sorry for my error.

Thanks very much for the info. I wonder if he put on a black shirt early on in the race because he was holding one when he finished?

Kip was registered to the Crim 10-mile race in 2010 with the goal to break 60:00. Then he posted on Facebook that he DNS as he was injured...but he managed to go for a bike ride that day:

From his FB page:
Kip Litton: Time will tell. Thankfully its unaffected by riding, as I busted a nice 45 mi "make-up" ride in the heat today in a hair under 2 hours.

I wondered if he ran Crim and was DQed, but couldn't admit it to his FB friends.

leaders whip around that corner at 1min 25secs...how far is it into the race when those leaders whip around that corner?

since it took Kip 4:34 to cross the starting line, you wouldnt expect to see Kip for awhile. ALso, a cop car follows the back of the packers.

what makes no sense to me is the mats say he covered the first 10 miles at 6:20 pace. Try running 6:20 pace through that enormous pack of runners. If you succeeded in passing them at 6:20 pace or close to it, you'd really stand out as sprinting by them.

Kip Litton
had a good day. Chuck Engle "Marathon Junkie" probably had a bad one. If you know who he is, you'll know why I'm gonna consider finishing one place behind him in the steamy Providence Marathon as a highlight for me.

Andrew Price Way to go! Now if you finish one behind him in the number of marathons run then we'll conclude you have a lot of free time!

Jeff Raphelson Great finish! Tell the truth, were you drafting off of him the whole way?
May 4, 2010 at 8:42am
Kip Litton I DID draft off him, for like the first 1/4 mile, until he disappeared from view!

I hope the thread stays because a google search of Kip Litton has various cheat related links.

But I am glad I don't live in that area of MI. It makes me wonder how many active and fitness oriented people have been to his dental practice as a result of his marathon *success*? Take that a step further - How long has he been a cheater and how legit is his DDS? I'm glad the doctor has never done any dental work on me!

yeah Google search of him used to just reveal one link from the Delaware race director. Now it links to this thread and a few others.

If you google him, there are numerous blogs discussing his exploits. Can you imagine??!! Fascinating, really. The fun part about the cheater threads is that it unites the letsrun community like nothing else. No silly internet arguments.
