I tried accessing Kip's http://www.worldrecordrun.com/ website, which I understood was deactivated a few months ago when ScottH pressed Kip.

I was surprised that the message on the website says "Error 403 - Forbidden
You tried to access a document for which you don't have privileges."

Does that mean that the people that Kip has chosen to give access to ($$$ donors, $$$ sponsors???, family, etc..) can still access the site, and perhaps have no idea of the questions about the legitimacy of Kip's "performances"??

It may mean he deleted the index file but yes there could be other URLs active under that domain, problem is we dont know what the URLs would be.

Kip has an Athlinks page http://www.athlinks.com/racer/3908643/Kip-Litton.aspx that includes a performance he was later DQ at (Delaware marathon)
check it out

I think he strategically places his race bib over his nutsack. that way when the race starts he can get all bundled up in winter coats & make it look he's not running the race. Then he'll cross the starting line. Then he shortcuts to like 0.5miles right before finish, strips his shorts for some spandex tights so the bib covering his nutsack is showing, then he crosses the line.

I just looked closely at the picture of this race on your blog. Let's think through this for a moment:
1.) They are approaching the finish line, but clearly have at least a few more steps before finishing.
2.) Look at Kip (supposedly running 5:34 avg pace), just behind two young girls (running 6:48 avg pace).
3.) He's been running over a minute/mile FASTER than these two girls, yet he is getting ready to try to squeeze directly between them? There is a ton of space on either side of this pair, but very little space between them.

I've been in a similar situation to this setup, running 5:30 pace and running through 6:30-8:30 paced people. There is a HUGE difference in speed, and there is no way at that pace differential that I would be positioning myself to try to shoot THAT gap when there is so much open space to the side. It makes me think the pace differential between Kip & the surrounding runners wasn't all that great.

Also Don't forget - He ran a 2:52 the next day.

Plotted his pace changes against a Boston Marathon course elevation profile. He did hit all the checkpoints. But the paces from 25K to 40K on look a bit suspicious. I wish I knew the course and where the hills start. Do these paces look legit?

What was the temperature for this race? Zero - Ten degrees? He is way overdressed. I continue to shake my head in amazement at this man and his antics.

The Boston course is a straight line through most of the course. Traffic and crowds are so thick that it would be very difficult to jump off the course and back on each 5k. My guess is that he may have handed off his chip to another runner to cruise through the hills and got the chip back on Boylston ave for the finish.

It is like a running whodunnit. I say Litton with the old switcheroo.

I had completely assumed he was doing this solo - after all, who would help with this, what would THEIR motivation be? But, someone earlier suggested the possibility that the donated money might not actually make it to the charity (C.F.). If this was true, there could be plenty of motivation for an accomplice. Money makes people do crazy things.

BAA 5K would be easy to cut.

but BAA boston marathon is probably the most difficult marathon to cheat at in the world, given its long history

Do you honestly believe that there is a man out there taking donations for a charity, then using that money to pay a runner to run a few of the difficult miles of a marathon at a similar pace to what the runner would run himself anyway, so that he can finish in what can be seen as an, at best, "respectable" time?

That strikes me as a few strides past unbelievable...

Could the BAA 5k been used as a warmup at 7min pace (he very likely didnt run the whole course), then the next day he ran 6:30s the whole way (including heartbreak?)

Kip did win first in the 45-49 age group for BAA 5K. What were the prizes for this accomplishment?

Since you couldn't tell from the key words I used, like "could", and "might", this was just speculation. I also said that I've always assumed that he was operating solo.

Obviously, I don't know what motivates this guy or what the true explanation is for his actions. But I am fascinated by him. I was merely pointing out that the possibility of true charity fraud (keeping the money) had only recently occurred to me after another poster suggested the possibility.

What I think is more likely/believable, is that he cheated on the 5k, and that the full marathon the next day was one of his few possiblity legitimate races of the year. (just because it sounds like it would be more difficult to cut the course). Of course, Miss Ruiz managed to do it decades ago, so nothing is impossible.

A more concise answer to your question would be: do I believe my scenario is LIKELY? No. Possible? Of course.

(Of course, before learning about all this, I would have answered the exact same way if you would have asked me "Do you honestly believe that a guy in his late 40s, with a family, a sick kid, and a dental practice would spend his weekends/money/energy flying around the country to cheat in marathons claiming to post a 2:5x time?")
