Kip Litton - Backup Pg 2 of 8

I posted this in the initial Kip Litton thread that was ultimately deleted.

The 5K course would be easy to cut, and give him the opportunity to shave a few minutes off his time. He either hooked a left at Charles and ran through the park, or, stayed on Comm Ave instead of going left at Berkeley-->Boylston-->Clarendon. I suppose he also could have cut down Fairfield or Gloucester as well....there's lots of options for this dirt bag.

There are 3,500 runners. There is no way in hell this guy starts dead balls last, and then drops to 5:35 pace. He'd run into a friggin wall of people. It just doesn't add up....anyone who has ever run a race knows how frustrating it is to get stuck in the back behind a couple thousand people running at 9 or 10 minute pace. No f***ing way.

Someone post his email address. I'm not on Facebook, and I'm sure as hell not signing up just for this dildo. I want to ask him some questions. Best part is I'm in the metropolitan Detroit area, and I would love nothing more than to see him at a local race. I absolutely would let him know I thought he was a fraud.

What I think is more likely/believable, is that he cheated on the 5k, and that the full marathon the next day was one of his few possiblity legitimate races of the year. (just because it sounds like it would be more difficult to cut the course). Of course, Miss Ruiz managed to do it decades ago, so nothing is impossible.

Kip has only 3 racephotographer photos for BostonMarathon. other finishers ive looked up have around 10

He must have an awfully good feel for pacesetting Boston. He didnt go out too fast, 1:25 for the half. Then he ran a 1:27 for 2nd half including heartbreak hills. ran 6:20s from mile 15 to mile 18, then ran 6:31 from mile 18 to 22, slowed down but only slightly from 22 to 26.2

He has participated in Boston Marathon 6 times though:

Haha, everytime I look at that 5k finish picture I notice something new.

Like at least one other race (the changed shoes one?), looks like Kip is lifting up his jacket/shirt to reveal his bib number. I imagine this is a nice feature if he wants to discretely exit/re-enter the race course unnoticed.

Is this a typical part of his M.O.?

I believe he usually posts where he is planning on running his next marathon, why doesnt someone run with him for a race and when he tries to leave the course call him out on it.

That pic is amazing illustration!!! 534 pace behind two young ladies running 648pace!

BAA 5k its ROFLMAO hilarious!!!

Yeah i think the technique might be to mount the race bib just using the top two pin holes to his compression shorts, leave the bottom two holes flapping in the breeze and pull up snowpants over the outfit. That way he can make outfit changes - start off jogging the race in snowpants that make him look like he got a load in his pants. Then in random order, cut the course and strip and come back in the race.

Problem is that No One notices he runs respectable times and wins age group awards until the race is all over and the timing company has spit out full results! All because he's waiting so long to cross starting line that his net time only comes as a huge surprise to race officials and top racers he beats after the timing companies program spits the full road race chip results out. And with a spot at the top, there's'kip litton with a 17:17 5k, despite having started the race after 3500 people, including walkers with a much smaller difference between net and chip.

elite Josh Cox won this race followed by some solid runners. Then some solid local boston USATF-NE club runners from BAA,GBTC,RTK,etc. And then next line Kip Litton finished 40th!!!

My best 5k road isnt much faster than 17:17 and i know im much more fit than Kip so this result always got my attention as a WTF type performance of his. And for a 4min to go by before cross the start line like WTF!!!??!!!

They did this...they followed Kip at Maine half marathon (on a bike i think?) like couple months back and they concluded that Kip litton had in fact run the full course in 1:28. So use that as a realistic estimate of his fitness level.
IMO, a 1:28 - That's a slow half marathon time for Kip if you try and believe he's been finishing full marathons in past few months in the mid to low 2:50s....

I think the peculiar thing is that it seems as if he is or has been a capable runner. So if he is course cutting, Why?
And if he has left a trail of doubt why not let the RD know he is there to verify his run? Instead of the' Where's Kip ' routine.

Where does he post this??? I don't believe he does anymore... at least since the first LetsRun thread when he altered (limited access to?) his worldrecordrun website.

I have seen Kippy run before I knew he was a cheat. He is not fast enough to run a 17:17 5K. No way he can run 5:30ish pace. Maybe low 18s on a good day. He was sponsored by the Snickers racing team and wore their logo. I am not sure if he is still sponsored by them or not.

Anybody know if there were any split mats/times on that BAA 5K course other than the start/finish mats?

If not, just look at the course map. The guy could have literally skipped the entire first two miles if he wanted to.

It doesn't look like he posts anything about his upcoming "races" on facebook either. I'm just waiting for a LetsRunner near Davison to go to his office and call him out on this.

he's capable of at least a 1:28 half marathon (Maine Half Marathon)
therefore probably not capable of a low250 marathon even on a fast course
and at age 48-49, definitely not capable of a low17min road 5K
....at least NOT within such a short time period, maybe if he altered his training and got better he could do it

i remember seeing that pic. i originially thought he was doing a track workout because i never zoomed in and saw a bib number. Now we know it's common practice for him to keep his bib flapping over his jock!

What were the prizes for the BAA 5K 2010 for 45-49 age group? BAA should now DQ him (if they haven't already) and give it to the real winner.
Really???

Pure speculation on my part, but I've wondered the same thing. The best hypothesis I've come up with so far is that he started the goal of raising money for his sick kid/C.F. at his wife's urging to "do something good with his running". (got this from his website before he locked it) So, maybe he's a sub-3 guy. He decides he'll try to raise money by running a sub-3 hour marathon in every state. Makes him a "hero" to many, justifies the travel/races, gets his wife's support or maybe gets her off his back... who knows. Then, soon after, he realizes that there is a BIG difference between running one sub-3 marathon a year vs. once a month. So, he is faced with a choice: admit to himself, family & friends that he can't hit his goal (failure?), or cheat. At this point, these are the only people paying much attention to him so he bolsters his ego and keeps their respect/praise and pursuit of his "world record" by cheating. There was also someone on the first thread that said he got kicked out of dental school for cheating... if that is true then maybe this guy has had a propensity to cheat his whole life, whenever the going got tough and he had to choose between failing and "success" via cheating.

Even if my theory is right, it still boggles my mind. I mean, why cheat in the Detroit marathon relay? Has it just become such a habit, or a compulsion that he can't control it? Is he just that cocky?

I don't know, but maybe I should have studied psychology because this stuff fascinates me and I don't have the tools to properly evaluate it.

I wish he would hold a press conference to explain it all. I think the running magazines, local news, and Lets Run crowd would pack a small auditorium to hear his tale.
